. . . The Red Caboose, NYC's only and last store to carry scale models of vintage subway trains and buses, has closed its doors for good after the owner retired. There is a video from 'Trainman' on YouTube aboiut his last visit before the store ceased to be:

They also had some books, but alas (unlike another defunct business, The Broadway Limited, which I once frequented), no vintage bus or subway maps.
Nonetheless, a shame for future model train and bus collectors. |

W.B.:
How many years Your's Truly shopped at this iconic store.....and NEVER leftempty handed!
I STILL have a number of items I purchased there, over the years........treasures, all.
"Brick-and mortor" hobby shops today are almost extinct, and, indeed, we are the poorer for it.
As a lad, back in the 60s, Mom and I often visited the legendary POLK'S on 5th, when it still boasted FIVE FLOORS of hobbies (I STILL have items purchased there, from 60-odd years ago)
Ahhhh, "progress"...............
"NYO"
