An "El" of a mess (weather related)..........
Earlier on Eyewitness News this frigid evening, there was footage showing the aftermath of a long section of signal/communications cable that had been suspended under the "El" along Fulton Street (Cypress Hills), but snapped due to the prolonged, extreme cold.
A number of parked cars beneath the elevated structure were damaged; subway service was also suspended, due to this incident..........

On this day in 1933...........
The IND's 8th Avenue line is extended from Chambers Street, Manhattan, to Jay Street in Brooklyn, with several new stations opening.
New stations opening are Broadway-Nassau and Jay-Street-Borough Hall; High Street will open at a later date.........

From my studies, Broadway-Nassau and High Street had the same lettered type variant as on the Northern Boulevard, 65th Street and Roosevelt Avenue stations of the IND Queens Boulevard line; the tiling of all stations must've been done at the same time. Especially since the purple tint also matched.
The Jay Street station was the only one to have the particular 'J' shape on the walls . . . |

On this day in 1962........
IND shuttle trains running between Euclid Avenue and the Rockaways are now designated "HH"; this then-redundant designation had been used between 1936 and 1946, by the Court Street shuttles..........

"Arnines" that ran the HH shuttle had the old 'FULTON' designation; not until new roll signs were made did the more correct 'ROCKAWAY' be seen below such letters. |

W.B.:
I had always hoped that the "HH" designation would have lived on, especially that its roots dated back to the opening of the Court Street shuttle in 1936.
One can only wonder, had the IND "Second System"had been built, how much further the "HH": would have eventually been extended deeper into Brooklyn beyond its Court Street terminal.............

More "R-211s" on the "B"...........
Just read that another "R-211" lashup has been spotted on the "B"; this makes about 17 sets now in service on the line.
Now.....let's see if any of the displaced "Brighton Belle" R-68s will be transferred to the Rockaways............

Don't forget, there are BMT Broadway lines that had used the steadily-retired "Fordy-Sixes," so something tells me the "Brighton Belles" will be reassigned over there. |

W.B.:
You might be right on this.
Funny, I've always thought of the "44/46" as being "IND" cars (I associated them, many years back, with the "A" and the "E")
The "Artens" ("Thunderboids") forever I will associate with the "CC".
Last (postwar) cars I truly thought of as "BMT" rolling stock were the "16s", "27/30s","32s", "38s", and the "40/42s".
Back in the very early 1980s, I often rode "Slant 40s" on the "F" (Culver) out to Coney Island on Saturday jaunts.......
