"R-27s"/"R-30s" for the SIRT.,........
Given the overall "commuter" nature" of the SIRT, I wonder if the seating arrangement would have reverted back to that used on the "R-16".............

W.B.:
You might be able to answer this.......
Are any "Fordy Fours" over on the "Isle of Staten" being held in reserve, or have all now been officially retired?

W.B.:
Still hard to fathom that the "Fordy-Fours" are no longer a part of daily Staten Island life; STILL cannot believe that the were in service for over a HALF-CENTURY!!!
Never thought they'd last longer than the veteran "Staten Island Toonerviles"("ME-1s"!)
Last Your's Truly "Rode The Rapid" was during the summer of '87.......got some good pics that day, especially at Tottenville......

"In bulk"...........
Last night, while watching "Eyewitness News" at 11, a report showed the tail end of a southbound "E" train lumbering out of 34th Street, Penn Station, and into the tunnel.
I then noticed that these "pudgy" NTTs indeed have a distinct "waddle" to them.
When seen from a certain angle (end profile) these cars indeed do have a somewhat "bloated"/"pudgy" look to them (the old "44s" and "46s" were "svelte" by comparison).......

Where's the security, I ask you?
"Hoid" on WINS earlier that, over the weekend, another group of mindless morons took an OOS "J" train for a joyride, starting out from the tail tracks south of Broad Street; I remember there is (was?) an active tower at the southern end of the Brooklyn-bound platform (via tunnel)
These punks also jammed a switch, forcing trains to terminate above Broad Street.
A few questions are in order:
1:
WHERE is the SECURITY?
2:
WHO is aiding these disturbed vandals in the theft of these trains?
3:
HOW are they not getting caught?
4:
HOW are they entering the tunnels/layup areas without being spotted?
Pretty damn sad; this sure ain't your grandfather's BMT, anynore.........

Further:
One WOULD think that, by now, with "joyriding" so commonplace, that the MTA would have implemented TIGHTER security in yards/storage areas, to keep this sort of mindless behavior at bay.
Also,WHERE are these punks getting the "tutoring"/tools required to gain access into the trains and to set them in motion?
It's only a matter of time before some serious incident occurs..........

"Waddling" in the confines of the tunnels. The way these "new'uns" move on the "Isle of Staten" warrants the nickname "Staten Island Rattlers." |

W.B.:
Indeed, these NTT "Bulkos" seem to have a distinct "shimmy" to them, if you are watching a train pull out of a station.
As to the "Staten Island Rattlers", again, as I've noted, it is indeed fortunate that there is only that one short stretch of tunnel on the line, between St. George and Tompkinsville.
Older cars (such as the "SMEEs" and prewar cars) "lumbered" a lot more than they "shimmied", though, of course, back in the long-ago days of wooden El cars, swaying along was quite "the norm", and could indeed make for an exciting "thrill ride", if riding on the open platforms between cars..........

From 1010 WINS earlier.....
Anchor Scott Stanford did an interesting "run-through" report earlier, on "the largest subway car order in city history", which will replace "decades-old" orange-and-yellow trains" (of course, he was referring to the seat colors!)
He mentioned only numbered (IRT) lines (obviously, the R-62 "Silverboids" will be next on the chopping block)
Oddly, no mention of the veteran "Brighton Belles", currently running on the lettered lines.
Something like 3,000 new cars are to be eventually ordered; contracts have yet to be issued.
Wonder if these cars will resemble the current "NTTs", or have a different appearance.
In any event, they WON'T look anything like SMEEs........
This will be interesting..........

UPDATE:
Just "loined" that the "R-262" will replace the "Silverboids", with "R-268s" replacing the "Bighton Belles".
I've also loined" that there will also be additional open-gangway cars ordered (descendents of the BMT's "C" units")

| Wasn't just 1010 WINS. 'PIX 11' also had a report on that, with pertinent comments to "Jan-OH." |

Yes, on the 1010 news report, Mr."Jan-Oh!" did make a few cooments on the new cars that will be arriving at some future date (sadly, NONE of these cars will have RFWs)......

"Talkin' 'toikey' on the SIR".............
On 1010 WINS earlier, Larry Mullins shared an amusing "run through" story that he was having a LOT of fun with; earlier this week, several SIR trains near Old Town were delayed by flocks of WILD TURKEYS blocking the tracks! (you CAN'T make this stuff up!)
Motormen had to repeatedly blow the horns to "shoo" the "toikeys" from the tracks!
"Sorry I'm late, boss, but my train was delayed because of wild turkeys on the tracks!"
Larry was chuckling as he he suggested that the motormen reach out of the cab and wave a can of cranberry sauce (or giblet gravy) in their direction(!!)
(and last month, another SI turkey faced off with an MTA bus!)
