These sinister-looking "Le Electrique Escargot" units will soon be replacing Boston's current fleet of "Plug Ugly" BREDAs..............

| Looks like Boston is going to continue the tradition of ugliness. I'll cross them off my "to visit" list. |

If I were to vist Boston today, I'd only ride the Blue Line (overhead catenary) and the Mattapan PCCs.
However, I've heard thst there is talk of replacing the the veteran PCCs with LRVs, even though that would mean substantial rebuilding at some ponts of the line.
I've even heard of proposals to turn the Mattapan line into a busway.
I'm fortunate I visited Boston twice (1991/1997) when it was still worth the trip......

Until several years ago, the MBTA also operated several trolleybus lines in the Cambridge area; several years ago, all these lines were converted to hybrid buses.
At its peak in 1952, Boston's trolleybus network was second only to Chicago's.
Today, Philadelphia is the only East coast city to still operate trolleybuses.
The articulated ETB's on the "Silver Line" were dual-powered, direct decsendents of PSNJ''s ASVs.
On the very last day of MBTA trolleybus operation, only one coach was in operation.
"Progress" strikes again.........
