The following is from a caption from John F. Doyle's "CHICAGO MOTOR COACH COMPANY" (photo shows a "SOUTH SUBURBAN SAFEWAY LINES" Old Look, in 1951)......

".......Safeway was asuburban operator, and would share Michigan Avenue and South Park with CMCCo........."

"......Bus No. 871 will terminate its run at the Trailways bus depot at 20 East Randolph, near Wabash....."

"......Safeway was affiliated with Trailways, using their red and cream colors and Hobo font script......."

Here's an interesting "past and present" page (note that Chicago has seen intercity bus service since the late 1920s)...........

That wiki article needs a lot of editing. The original Burlington Trailways, a subsidiary of the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad, was sold to All American Bus Lines after World War II, and the combined company was sold to Transcontinental Bus System (Continental Trailways) in 1953. The whole thing was sold to Greyhound Lines in 1987.

The more recent Burlington Trailways, while serving some of the original's routes, is a family owned, much smaller entity that in reality has no connection with the original, except in adopting its name...

traildriver:

WELCOME BACK, my friend.....your always "in-depth" input has been greatly missed, these past several weeks! Wink

Thanks also for the additional info on "BURLINGTON TRAILWAYS";not being the studious expert you are, regarding intercity operations, I have no way of knowing just what is"fact" and what is incorrect/inaccurate.

Thanks again for the "heads up"!Wink
