Talk about a monumental waste of money.......

Just learned that the "streetcars" (LRVs) that operate along the "H" Street corrdor will be abandoned, after only a decade in service.

The sheer stupidity of building a hi-tech light rail corridor, cost $$$$$$$$$$ for only a TEN YEAR tenure is light-years beyond insanity; it was an ill-planned farce from the start........... Razz

*(Last day of service will be March 31st, 2026)

Here are two photos of the current DC "streetcars" (these "streetcars" look more like giant South American "railroad worms", snared in duct tape!) Shocked Razz

And to think that the REAL streetcars in Washington DC were in service from the 1890s until 1962.........talk about "progress" (or lack, thereof)..... Razz

Interesting! This could very well be the fate of the "Tempe Streetcar" when the authorities decide they can't afford a wasteful expense any longer. The "streetcars" even look similar.

Cyberider:

As the "DC STREETCAR" really went "nowhere", and was ill-planned from the start, I am not at all surprised that this "streetcat" is biting the dust.

I wonder, though, what will become of the rolling stock?

I an NO FAN of them, to be sure, but, at only 10 years of age, I can easily see them being purchased by some other light rail "streetcar" pperation, in some other city, for further service.

They are still far too "young" to scrap..........

The Tempe Streetcar goes nowhere as well yet the City and Valley Metro continue to proclaim what a success it is and want to expand it. Fares were free for the first three years and they finally started collecting them, supposedly. If it's such a success, maybe they'll want to purchase the DC cars and paint them green to match the Tempe fleet. It's all such a waste. A private company depending on farebox revenue would never build such a thing. A few small buses would provide better service at a fraction of the cost.
